PROPHECIES AND STORY BEHIND THE SONG ‘ REVIVAL IN AFRICA’ (AND HOW IT LINKS TO THE PRAYER ON THE 22ND)
After quite some feedback on the video - ‘Revival in Africa’ - I felt lead to just recall the chain of events over the last two years and how the song started when a man from the DRC who visited me two years ago said the Lord told him to move with his family to Bloemfontein and pray until the revival comes which will spread across Africa ((see write up below). I m really dumbstruck how GOD put all these things together leading up to the prayer on the 22nd.
If you have not seen the video yet follow this youtube link to the video ‘Revival in Africa’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3alR8XYDRKk . If it does not open just search: 'Revival in Africa Mighty Spear'

About two years ago I was introduced to a man named Paul, an intercessor from the DRC who visited me at my home in Nelspruit in 2015. He said the Lord told him that there is a revival coming to Africa and it will start in South Africa. He said the Lord had called him all the way from the Congo to move with his family to South Africa to a place called ‘Bloemfontein’ (which he never heard of) to pray for the revival that will start in South Africa. He said that the Lord told him to stay and pray in Bloemfontein until the revival comes. At the time of Paul’s visit in 2015 I happened to have been busy writing the song, ‘Revival in Africa’, and I was quite stirred by the fact that word the Lord gave him confirmed the theme of the song God gave me. My intention was simply to use the song during our city prayer meetings, as we pray for revival in South Africa and Africa, and other nations which we did during 2015 and 2016.
In Jan 2016 the Lord linked our city prayer group with a prayer group in Standerton, which hosted a short prayer conference by Suzette Hattingh. Suzette used to lead the intercession team of Reinhard Bonke’s ministry from 1980 – 1997 and has since started Voice in the City Ministries, which is a global missions organization and has an incredible testimony of breaking open nations for Jesus by firstly mobilising churches to pray. Just for some further context, in the first 10 years of Voice in the City, they ministered face to face to about 16 million people. Though Suzette has been in missions for 37 years, and ministered to millions of people in over 69 countries, the Lord has somehow not called her to her country of birth, SA, up until 2015. At this conference in Standerton, Suzette said the Lord spoke to her clearly in December 2015, calling her to South Africa to equip the body to pray. I specifically listened to the video recording again - the exact words she used was ‘it’s time for South Africa”. This is January 2016.
A few months later she and her team flew all the way from Jakarta Indonesia (where she is currently based) to speak to a handful of leaders in Mbombela (the Eastern gate of SA) – bringing a simple prophetic message to leaders: That the altars of prayer is to be restored – in our own life’s, our families, churches, our regions and ultimately and her very last point was restoring a national prayer altar.
When I heard about Angus calling SA to pray at Bloemfontein I felt the Lord say that I should record the song and release it in some way as a prophetic declaration and to stir the bride to pray, but I did not really have the time and wrestled a bit with the title being about Africa and not South Africa - by that time I did not yet put the whole puzzle together. In view of the prayer on the 22nd I then added the verse “Oh let us turn away from a wicked pathway. Oh let us fear the Lord, let us seek His glory. Let our Nation every nation consecrate our hearts before him”.
The week when we started the recording (Early March 2017) there was an all night prayer meeting at our church which I could not attend, but he word that come out of that meeting was that was the Lord will take away all the darkness from Africa with a light shining from South Africa to the rest of the continent and that he will remove the stronghold lie that says ‘nothing good comes from Africa’.
During the recording I intended to lead sing the song, but on the day of the recording I could not do so due to heavy sinus that week. I then asked one of the ladies which happened to be in the studio as an additional backing vocalist to sing the song, which just shows if God wants to release a song it really doesn’t matter who sings it.
Everybody asks me who is the lead singer. Her name is Bella Velaphe-Sefako.
WHY “MIGHTY SPEAR”?
I just felt the Lord drop the word mighty spear into my heart as the banner under which to release the song, and possibly other prophetic songs later on.
The word ‘spear’ obviously refers to the prime weapons of spiritual warfare – namely prayer and worship and it only becomes ‘mighty’ when it’s held by the righteous right hand of the Lord. Regards
